Samsung boss confirms Galaxy S9 launch date in bid to beat iPhone X, but expert says phone could cost £140 more ...
SAMSUNG has finally confirmed the launch date for its next flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S9.
The company revealed that the major iPhone rival will debut at this year's Mobile World Congress event in February.
Every year, Barcelona plays host to a major tech convention – MWC.
All the biggest tech brands in the world attend, making the event a hotbed for high-end smartphone launches.
Luckily for Samsung fans, the tech giant's mobile boss has confirmed that the Galaxy S9 will be revealed at MWC 2018.
The company will likely hold a huge press event with journalists from all over the world to show off its iPhone X killer.
This year's Mobile World Congress runs from February 26 to March 1.
But Samsung typically debuts its big products one or two days before the show officially begins.
That means the most likely launch date for the phone will be Sunday, February 25.
The announcement came from Samsung mobile president DJ Koh at this week's CES 2018 tech show in Las Vegas.
We're expecting Samsung's new phone to come with a host of top-end features.
The handset is likely to feature Qualcomm's powerful new Snapdragon 845 chip, which is 25% faster than the old model.
But Samsung's phone is likely to cost a pretty penny, with analysts predicting a big jump in price for the phone this year.
Speaking to The Sun, Kantar WorldPanel ComTech's Dominic Sunnebo said he expects a "launch price of around £829".
That's a hefty leap upwards from the £689 price tag of last year's Galaxy S8.
Samsung hasn't confirmed pricing however, so don't start flogging your belongings to pay for the new phone just yet.
