The latest Samsung Galaxy X rumour just got brutally quashed

Samsung has crushed speculation that its rumoured Galaxy X foldable display equipped smartphone will launch early next year.

Bundled into a press release about a LTE-Railway network created by Samsung and Korean telecom firm KT, Samsung mentioned a rugged smartphone with the model number SM-G888N0, previously thought to be the Galaxy X.

So it turns out the the SM-G888N0 smartphone is not some next-generation device with a flexible display, and is pretty much the opposite, offering a phone for use in industrial conditions where potentially fragile foldable components are not likely to be welcome.

Furthermore, the SM-G888N0 is almost certainly a phone designed for professional field-based work use, meaning it’s unlikely to find its way into the hands of consumers.

All this pours a good deal of water on smouldering speculation that Samsung could reveal the so-called Galaxy X at CES 2018.

While there’s a good chance that Samsung may indeed be working on a flexible and foldable phone under its Galaxy line-up, we doubt it’ll will now make its debut early 2018, if at all in the coming year.

Flexible displays have been teased for years and despite the prototypes shown off by the likes of Samsung and LG, they always appear to be several years off from becoming a true commercial product.

As such, Samsung is likely spending extra time trying to make sure the Galaxy X and its rumoured flexible display are up to scratch before it’s released into an arena of demanding smartphone fans.

But in the mean time, the reveal of the Galaxy S9 looks to be just around the corner, so that should serve as a means to satiate appetites for a new Samsung flagship phone over the coming months.
