OPPO's Smartphone Shipments Rose 22.4% in 2Q17 over 2Q16

OPPO accounted for 6.8% of the global smartphone market in 2016
Chinese smartphone company OPPO is the world’s fourth-largest smartphone manufacturer. According to market research firm IDC, OPPO shipped 99.4 million smartphones in 2016, a significant rise of 133% YoY (year-over-year) compared to shipments of 42.7 million in 2015.
At the end of 2016, OPPO followed Samsung (SSNLF), Apple (AAPL), and Huawei in the smartphone market with a share of 6.8% compared to 3.0% in 2015. OPPO’s shipments in 2Q17 totaled 27.8 million units, a rise of 22.4% YoY compared to 22.7 million units in 2Q16.
OPPO dominates Asian markets
OPPO was the third-largest smartphone manufacturer in China at the end of 2Q17, trailing Huawei and Vivo. OPPO is the fourth-largest smartphone player in India with a share of 10%.
According to market research firm, IDC, “The Chinese brand continues to expand its international business, leading with many markets in Southeast Asia. During the quarter, it expanded its number of service centers in India and added its new exclusive retail outlets as well.”
IDC also stated that OPPO is increasing its market presence in Thailand through channel expansion and billboard advertisements across the country. OPPO has partnered with a local operator and is offering its A37 handset at no cost in order to increase its share and grow its customer base in Thailand.
