Samsung Confirms Key Feature Removed From Galaxy S10

Samsung’s Galaxy S10 smartphone is expected to be a game changer when it launches in the first quarter of 2019 (possibly as early as CES in January), but it looks like one key feature may not make the flagship handset.

Following the launch of the Galaxy Note 9, it is noticeable that the majority of technological advances that are possible in the current generation of smartphones were not present in the South Korean phablet. Apart from the highest specification model picking up 8 GB, the Note 9 is missing many flourishes such as a triple-lens camera, and is lacking in genuine advancement.

As expected, the Note 9 was the ultimate iterative process building on the Galaxy Note 8.

The Galaxy S10 is expected to push the boat out with a raft of new features, including the aforementioned triple-lens camera, the inclusion of ‘under the screen’ fingerprint sensors, and a redesign to allow for an ‘all-screen’ forward facing display. What it may not have is the fastest possible connectivity.

As carriers prepare to switch on 5G technology to allow for mobile data speeds rivalling Wi-Fi, they are looking for flagship handsets that can be sold tot consumers that take advantage of 5G. And Samsung Mobile’s CEO DJ Koh has confirmed that the Galaxy S10 family will not carry 5G.

Speaking to the press, Koh noted that the Galaxy S10 will not be the first Samsung handset to carry 5G. That leaves a few options. If you wanted to be very careful with the wording, you could argue that a 5G handset is going to be launched before the S10, technically making the S10 the second handset to carry 5G.

I feel that’s a sneaky step to far. What’s more likely is that Samsung has another advanced headset that has a better first for 5G connectivity. As the company continues to work on the presumptively named Galaxy X folding smartphone, will the transformative tablet/phone hybrid be partnered with 5G?
