Oppo R17 Pro will ship with Snapdragon 710, benchmark site reveals

Oppo is all set to announce four new phones this months, the Oppo R17 and R17 Pro, and the Oppo F9 and F9 Pro. The F9 Pro is heading to India on August 21 while the R17-series is likely to debut in China. Earlier this week, the company made the R17 official on its Chinese website and we know pretty everything about the device including that it will be powered by a Snapdragon 670 chipset. The R17 Pro has been a little more mysterious but Geekbench confirmed a few new details about the model including its processor.

Looks like the Oppo R17 Pro will be powered by a slightly more powerful Snapdragon 10 chipset. Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 710 processor a few months ago as the first in the new Snapdragon 700-series. The chipset is designed to bring high-end 800-series capabilities to more affordable phones. The SoC brings a multi-core AI engine for advanced artificial intelligence and an Adreno 616 GPU with a 40 per cent reduction in power consumption when gaming and 20 per cent reduction in power consumption when streaming video. The octa-core chipset is based on a 10nm process similar to Snapdragon 845 and 835.

The Oppo R17 Pro getting a Snapdragon 710 chipset suggests a performance powerhouse that can match high-end flagships. As per the benchmark listing, the R17 Pro scored 1708 in single core and 5818 in multi-core. The listing also confirms Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box, which will likely come with Oppo custom ColorOS skin on top.

As previously rumoured, the Oppo R17 Pro will come with 8GB of RAM, but this may be limited to certain countries. Elsewhere, the device may be offered with 6GB of RAM. Apart from the chipset, the R17 Pro will likely be pretty similar to the R17.

The Oppo R17 was listed on the company's official Chinese website this week. The phone brings an edge-to-edge display with a unique water droplet-like notch that will also be seen on the Oppo F9 Pro. It sports a tall 6.4-inch FHD+ display with a 19:9 aspect ratio, Gorilla Glass 6 protection and a 91.5 per cent screen-to-body ratio.

The Oppo R17 will sport a glass back with a gradient colour design in Streamer Blue and Neon Purple options. There's also no physical fingerprint sensor, which means the phone will offer an in-display sensor that will unlock the device in 0.41 seconds. The dual cameras on the back will include a 16-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor with LED flash. Housed in the notch on the front will be a 25-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture. The front camera will also support AI portrait mode and other selfie-centric features. A 3,500mAh battery will be housed inside the Oppo R17 and the device will support VOOC fast charging.
