Oppo A3s: Top 5 Features That Make it a Good Alternative For Xiaomi Redmi Y2

OPPO A3s

Very recently, Oppo launched a new budget smartphone in India called the Oppo A3s. The all-new budget smartphone from the Chinese OEM offers a number of interesting features for its budget price. These include a huge notched display, face unlock and much more. So, without further ado let’s find out why this new Oppo A3s is a better choice than the Xiaomi Redmi Y2.

Oppo A3s: Top 5 Reasons to Choose Over Xiaomi Redmi Y2

Larger Display with Popular Notch

Despite being a budget offering, the Oppo A3s succeeds in standing apart from the crowd due to its large 6.2 inch HD+ IPS LCD display with 81.2% screen to body ratio and 1,520 x 720p resolution. Incidentally, the display has very minimal bezels on all three sides except for the chin. The forehead of the smartphone also bears a rectangular notch. The lack of bezels on the sides results in a pretty high screen to body ratio, especially when compared with its counterpart, the Xiaomi Redmi Y2. Apparently, the budget Redmi features a slightly smaller 5.99-inch HD+ (1,440 x 720p) IPS LCD panel with thick bezels on the top and bottom. The larger screen on the Oppo results in a markedly better multimedia viewing experience.

Beautiful Design and a Compact Form Factor

The all-new A3s comes with beautiful design, reminiscent of Oppo phones from the past. It appears to sport an all-glass design, however, that isn’t really the case. We aren’t in fact surprised to find that considering the price of the Oppo smartphone. Instead of going for glass, Oppo has opted to give a reflective vinyl coating on the back of the smartphone that would mimic the appearance of the former. Moreover, the smartphone has a relatively compact form factor for a budget smartphone.

Huge 4,230mAh Battery

The Oppo A3s completely outperforms the Redmi Y2 in the battery department. It packs a humongous 4,230mAh battery as compared to the markedly smaller 3,080mAh cell found in the Xiaomi Redmi Y2. This results in a vastly better screen-on time, resulting in the Oppo A3s to easily last you through a day and half of your daily smartphone activity.

Absence of Rear Camera Bump

Another interesting bit regarding the design of the Oppo A3s is the lack of a rear camera bump. Unlike, what we see in the Xiaomi Redmi Y2, the dual rear cameras on the Oppo A3s sit flush with the polycarbonate back plate. This helps in greater durability and scratch resistance for the cameras of the Oppo A3s.

Light Color OS 5.1 Interface

The latest budget smartphone from Oppo is powered by Android Oreo 8.1. This is topped up with Oppo’s own Color OS 5.1 interface. It’s an extremely light UI, and doesn’t really lag as much as the Xiaomi’s MIUI under heavy usage scenarios. The Color OS 5.1 also comes with a bunch of customizations and a hoard of utilitarian features.

Oppo A3s: Specifications

The Oppo A3s is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. This is clubbed with 2GB RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. Oppo is also providing room for memory expansion via microSD card (up to 256GB). One of the main highlighting features of the Oppo A3s is its camera. The rear boasts a dual camera setup comprising of 13MP f/2.2 primary and a 2MP f/2.4 secondary sensor. Both the sensors are backed by PDAF and LED flash. That aside, the smartphone comes with an 8MP f/2.2 selfie snapper. Last but not the least, the Oppo A3s runs on Android Oreo 8.1.

Oppo A3s: Price in India, Availability

Oppo has placed the A3s as its budget contender. It has priced it below the Real Me 1, and unlike its more powerful sibling, the smartphone would be available both on online and offline retail stores. The Oppo A3s is priced at Rs 10,990 for its lone 2GB RAM + 16GB storage variant. It comes in two color options namely Red and Dark Purple.
