There seems to be no end of mid-range handset entries in the already crowded segment of the Indian smartphone market. This has ended up taking a positive turn for consumers as smartphone makers are now in a constant struggle to fit as much as possible in a handset while still maintaining monetary constraints. The Oppo A3 is the newest budget offering from the company that has arrived to challenge all the popular players in this segment. This is another phone from the company that brings a notch on the top of its display.
We decided to pit it against two of the most popular devices in this price segment to see how it compares in this section of the market. On one side we have the Honor P20 Lite which is a “lite” version of the popular Honor P20 Pro that launched recently. Then we have the latest Nokia 6 (2018) edition with its well-known reputation. Let’s see if the new contender stands a chance against these two well-established smartphones.

Huawei is launching the P20 Lite in India on May 3, 2018, and the device will go on sale exclusively via Amazon. It is going to be priced at Rs. 19,999. On the other hand, we have the Nokia 6 (2018) which carries a price tag of Rs. 16,999. The Oppo A3 is yet to officially launch in India, but based on its Chinese retail value; we expect that phone to be priced roughly around Rs. 20,000.

First, let’s take a ‘look’ at the display’s specs these devices have to offer. The Huawei P20 Pro Lite comes with 5.84-inch IPS LCD FullView display bearing Full HD+ resolution at 1080 x 2280 pixels, 19:9 aspect ratio and 2.5D curved glass protection. The Oppo A3 comes equipped with a slightly larger 6.2-inch display that also has a 19:9 aspect ratio and Full HD+ resolution. Both these devices come with a notch at the top of their respective displays. The Nokia 6 (2018) opts for a more conventional setup with its 5.5-inch IPS LCD screen with full-HD 1080×1920 pixels resolution, an aspect ratio of 16:9, and Gorilla Glass for protection.
All these devices do feel reasonably premium with the Oppo A3 and Huawei P20 Lite sporting curved glass designs on both the front and the back. The Oppo A3 sports a slightly altered look with angular design underneath its rear glass that makes it unique. Then we have the Nokia 6 (2018) with its traditional brick design and metallic unibody construction. In the end, it will come down to personal preference of either going with a more traditional look of the Nokia 6 (2018) or being a bit adventurous with the notched displays of the Huawei P20 Lite or the Oppo A3.

Oppo A3 is powered by a MediaTek Helio P60 octa-core CPU clocked at 2GHz along with a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. This is paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage with expandability up to 256GB via microSD card. You get Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box along with a 3400mAh battery to power this package.
The Huawei P20 Lite comes powered by Huawei’s in-house Kirin 659 SoC with Mali T830-MP2 GPU, 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 256GB using a microSD card. The phone offers Android 8.0 Oreo-based EMUI 8.0 OS out-of-the-box. It has a 3000mAh battery with support for fast charging.
The Nokia 6 (2018) comes loaded with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 clocked at 2.2GHz along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. This can be expanded up to 128GB with a microSD card. A 4GB RAM/64GB storage variant may debut in the coming months. The phone has a 3000mAh battery onboard and runs Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box.
All three of these phones are equipped with processors that fall very close to each other when it comes to synthetic benchmarks. However, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 takes the edge because of its better optimisation and reliability. But the lead is not by much, and the Huawei P20 Lite’s Kirin 659 performs just as well.

Coming to the imaging department, the Huawei P20 Lite boasts a 16MP+2MP dual camera setup at the back with phase-detection autofocus, LED flash, and 1080p video recording capability. The front houses a 16MP fixed focus camera for selfies. Both the Nokia 6 (2018) and the Oppo A3 settle for a single 16MP rear camera sensor along with an 8MP fixed focus camera at the front. The Huawei is the clear winner in this segment because of its better camera setup at both the front and the rear.

The Oppo A3 doesn’t really stand out in any category. The Nokia 6 (2018) is a decent package considering its price and does offer a cleaner software experience. But the larger screen and better camera setup on the Huawei P20 Lite helps it get the lead over the other smartphones.
