Honor 7A vs Oppo Realme 1 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 5: Price in India, specifications and features compared

The affordable smartphone segment in India is very lucrative, both for smartphone makers are and consumers. There are a number of smartphone options in the sub Rs 10,000 range, with Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 being a popular option. Huawei’s sub-brand Honor today launched two new smartphones in India, the Honor 7A and Honor 7C. The Honor 7A is the affordable one and it will face fierce competition from the Redmi Note 5 and Oppo’s recently launched, Realme 1. Here’s a look at how the three smartphones compete based on their price, specifications and features.

Price in India and availability

The Honor 7A is priced at Rs 8,999 and will be available via Flipkart starting May 29. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is offered in two variants – Rs 9,999 for the 3GB RAM variant, and Rs 11,999 for the 4GB RAM variant. It can be purchased from mi.com/in, Flipkart, and Mi Home stores.

Realme 1, on the other hand, is offered in three storage variants – the base storage variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage is priced at Rs 8,990, whereas the mid variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage priced at Rs 10,990. The top-end variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage is priced at Rs 13,990. The smartphone will go on sale starting May 25 at 12:00PM on Amazon India.

Display

All three smartphones feature full screen displays with 18:9 aspect ratio. The only difference is the screen size and resolution. The Honor 7A comes with a 5.7-inch HD+ (1440×720 pixels) IPS LCD display, the Realme 1 comes with a 6-inch full HD+ display, whereas the Redmi Note 5 features a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display (2160×1080 pixels).

Chipset, RAM and storage

The Honor 7A is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core SoC paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage, along with a dedicated microSD card slot for further expansion. The Realme 1 is powered by a MediaTek Helio P60 octa-core SoC, paired with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, 4GB RAM with 64GB storage and 6GB RAM with 128GB storage. Lastly, the Redmi Note 5 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC, paired with Adreno 506 GPU, 3GB / 4GB of RAM, and 32GB / 64GB storage.

Cameras

This is where the Honor 7A takes a lead compared to its competitors. It features a dual camera setup at the back which includes a 13-megapixel primary sensor and 2-megapixel secondary sensor. Honor has also packed AI-based features for scene detection, and bokeh mode. For selfies, the smartphone features an 8-megapixel snapper with a soft selfie light.

The Realme 1 also comes with an AI-powered 13-megapixel rear camera, and an 8-megapixel front camera. The AI is capable of scene detection and can also add depth effects to your portrait shots, without needing dual cameras with a dedicated depth sensor.

Xiaomi, on the other hand, has equipped the Redmi Note 5 with a 12-megapixel main camera along with a dual-tone LED flash. Up front is a 5-megapixel front camera with LED flash for selfies and video calling.

Battery, Connectivity and OS

All three smartphones include dual SIM card slots, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11 and GPS. In terms of battery, the Honor 7A comes with a 3,000mAh battery, whereas the Oppo Realme 1 comes with a slightly large 3,410mAh battery. The Redmi Note 5, on the other hand, comes even larger 4,000mAh battery. In the software department, Honor 7A and Realme 1 run on Android Oreo, whereas the Redmi Note 5 runs Android Nougat OS, and Oreo update is due to rollout.
