Apple fans furious over new Samsung ad that mocks their iPhones
SAMSUNG is back to its mischievous ways of lampooning iPhones and Apple fans aren't happy.
The Korean manufacturer's latest ad continues its hilarious streak of ripping its rival's flagship blower, this time detailing a woeful day in the life of an iPhone owner.
Specifically, it blasts Apple's revelation that it slows down older handsets with knackered batteries.
While the gaffe may be old news, it's sprung back into the spotlight after customers accused Apple of ripping them off over battery swaps.
They told BBC's Watchdog that the firm was charging them over £200 for the £25 job by claiming that their handsets required extra repairs.
Samsung's ad stars one of the devices Apple admitted to throttling, an iPhone 6, whose female owner has her day ruined by her dodgy blower.
The sluggish phone lets her down at airport immigration, on an aeroplane, and in an Uber taxi, forcing her to take it to an Apple Store.
While there, she's told by a fake Apple employee that she could “turn off the performance management feature but it may lead to unexpected shutdowns.”
Or, he adds, “you could just upgrade it.”
She goes with the latter, only opting for a new Samsung Galaxy S9 instead of the £999 iPhone X.
And the bloke with a notch haircut (featured in Samsung's previous Apple spoof) also makes an appearance with a mini-me in tow.
Unsurprisingly, Apple fans don't see the funny side.
Taking to Twitter to defend their fave smartphone, people slammed Samsung for unfairly comparing an old device (the 2014 iPhone 6) to this year's Galaxy S9 flagship.
One person also noted that the Korean electronics giant has also suffered its fair share of embarrassments, including exploding Galaxy Note 7 phones.
The controversial ad arrives amid the backdrop of an ongoing $1 billion patent litigation lawsuit between the fierce rivals.
Apple sued Samsung back in 2012 claiming that it had produced and sold phones that infringed several of its patents.
A jury is set to conclude the legal saga very soon, meaning Apple could have the final laugh.
