Oppo set to launch a sub-brand in India to take on Xiaomi: Sources
Chinese smartphone maker Oppo is all set to make a major announcement in collaboration with Amazon, tomorrow, ie, May 1. According to sources, Oppo is set to launch a sub-brand in India to take on the Indian smartphone market leader Xiaomi. This sub-brand is said to be exclusively available online. As per a report in Economic Times, the company has also started assembling printed circuit boards (PCBs) in India at its new second plant.
Speculations are that this partnership will be on the lines of what we saw last week with Taiwanese smartphone maker Asus and domestic e-commerce portal Flipkart. Asus had launched the Asus Zenfone Max Pro in India at a starting price of Rs 10,999. Due to this partnership, Flipkart has become an Asus premier partner and seller for smartphones. This will essentially include handsets that have been designed specially to address Indian market needs.
Starting with the Asus Zenfone Max Pro, Flipkart has announced a new programme called ‘Complete Mobile Protection’ which is valid for a year and covers all possible damages -- such as including screen breakage and liquid damage -- at a cost of Rs 49. Flipkart also offers a national helpline number and home pickup-and-drop service.
Asus and Flipkart have also signed a memorandum of understanding which makes Flipkart the primary sales channel for Asus ZenFones. Both Flipkart and Asus are also said to collaborate in the co-creation of new products for the Indian market based on consumer insights.

The global e-commerce company Amazon is running a banner on its website, "A new partnership for the real me," and also revealing that this is going to be an Amazon-exclusive announcement.
The listing page doesn't clearly reveal what the announcement will include but it does say that it is going to be a "disruptor". Listing also states that there is going to be a "powerful new brand" and a "a stylish new smartphone" -- both of which are launching tomorrow.
