Oppo R15, R15 Dream Edition with a Bezel-less 'Notch' Design Announced

Chinese smartphone giant Oppo has announced its new flagship devices, the R15 and the R15 Dream Mirror Edition. Both devices have been announced to launch in China and will be available there starting April 1st. These smartphones bear a bezel-less design along with a ‘notch’ on the top. Let’s take a look at their features and specifications.

In terms of design, the smartphones look quite appealing. Both of them come with a glass back but Oppo hasn’t mentioned about any wireless capabilities in them. There’s a special edition of the phone that comes with a ceramic back design to offer better aesthetics and feel. The R15 can be bought in three different colours: White, Red and Purple. Whereas the R15 Dream Mirror Edition is available in Mirror Red and Black colour options.

The Oppo R15 is fitted with a 6.28-inch Full HD+ display that gives the phone a bezel-less iPhone-X like look with a notch. It is also worth noting that this is an OLED display with an aspect ratio of 19:9. Even the Dream Mirror edition has the same display specifications.

Performance-wise, the R15 packs in a MediaTek Helio P20 chipset. On the other hand, the Dream Mirror edition is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset. Both the phones come with 6GB of RAM for seamless multi-tasking.

Talking about the cameras, the Oppo R15 gets a dual-rear camera setup that combines a 16-megapixel sensor with a 5-megapixel one. On the front, there’s a 20-megapixel selfie camera provided as well. The Dream Mirror(DM) edition comes with the same front camera but a different rear setup. On the back, it has a 16-megapixel sensor along with another 20-megapixel camera. Oppo is known to offer good cameras and this being a flagship device, you can expect good output from both the cameras.

The R15 draws power from its 3450mAh battery whereas the DM edition has a slightly lower 3400mAh unit. Both of them come with Oppo’s VOOC Flash Charge that is capable of providing up to 2 hours of talktime in just 5 minutes, as claimed by the brand.

These devices run on Colour OS 5.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. All the basic connectivity options are provided including 4G VoLTE, WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C and GPS.

The Oppo R15 is priced at 2999 Yuan (~ Rs. 30,500) and the Dream Mirror edition of the phone costs 3299 Yuan (~ Rs. 33,500). The special edition of the phone that comes with a ceramic back is offered at a slightly premium pricing of 3499 Yuan (~ Rs. 35,900). As mentioned earlier, these phones will go on sale from April 1st in China. As for the Indian launch, there is no official word yet. However, we can expect the phone to arrive in India probably in the next few months.
