GasLog back at Samsung for second order of 2018
Peter Livanos-led GasLog has booked its second LNG carrier newbuilding of the year.
New York-listed GasLog has inked an 180,000-cbm ship at Samsung Heavy Industries and holds an option for a second.
Paul Wogan, chief executive of GasLog, said: "Given that the outlook for LNG shipping demand remains robust, and with increasing evidence that newbuild prices are starting to rise, we have moved to lock in a very attractive price for our second newbuild order in 2018.
“We remain confident that the unit freight cost advantage offered by the latest generation vessels will make this ship highly attractive to customers looking for the most competitive solution to their LNG shipping requirements."
GasLog says the firm newbuilding, for delivery in the second quarter of 2020, does not presently have a charter in place.
It is GasLog’s second at Samsung in 2018. In January it penned a 180,000-cbm newbuild for delivery in the third quarter of 2019.
The latest contract continued a strong period for the shipyard, which has also won a series of eight 11,000-teu boxships from Evergreen during 2018.
