OPPO to Launch Budget Smartphone With 18:9 Display and AI Selfie Camera
In the past few months, OPPO has been very active in the Kenyan smartphone market and they are at it again, this time around, to regain their crown with a supposed budget smartphone. For context, OPPO launched the F5 last year and it’s biggest selling points were it’s 18:9 display and the camera that offered A.I. beautification for your selfies.
At the beginning of the year, TECNO launched their first 18:9 display, the Camon CM that was aimed at fighting off OPPO F5’s effect in the market. Well, OPPO is not taking this sitting down. The company’s latest device, the OPPO A83 is about to launch in the country.
The OPPO A83 is highlighted as a smartphone with a unique body structure, Full screen and A.I. beauty camera technology. All these are terms we have definitely heard before but what’s different this time? Pricing, OPPO says. “With the A83, OPPO will have delivered a very stylish Full-Screen smartphone that is believed to be placed at a friendlier price, following the Full-Screen trend that was first spotted in the previous F5 series,” says OPPO Kenya’s Public Relations and Communication Manager, James Irungu.
Before we get to the pricing, here’s what OPPO A83 will offer:
- 5.7″ HD+ display
- Android 7.1 with ColorOS 3.2
- Helio P23 (MT6763T) Octa-core Processor
- 32GB internal storage
- 13MP main camera + 8MP selfie camera
- 3180mAh battery
One interesting thing is that the OPPO A83 skips on having a fingerprint reader and instead settles for face unlock. “The device, that will rework on the design and the front of the phone eliminating the fingerprint completely, will dedicate as much space as possible to the screen will also feature the A.I. beauty technology feature and the facial security feature having more twerks making it a totally new device from the norm,” says OPPO Kenya.
The OPPO A83 is already available in markets such as India where it retails for around $218 which translates to around Ksh.22,000. Seeing that OPPO A-series smartphones range at around Ksh.20,000, we expect the OPPO A83 to stick to this trend.
The phone is set to launch sometime this month, so we won’t have to wait long to find out how much OPPO will be asking for their new A83 smartphone.
