Oppo Launches R11s With Style, 20MP Camera & Face ID
Following its fashion-centric launch party in Sydney last night, Oppo has unveiled its latest flagship devices, the R11s & R11s Plus – which will be available to purchase in Australia from February 5th.
Both smartphones will be available at more locations than previously before – including carrier contracts through Optus and Vodafone, and outright at several retailers including JB Hi-Fi and Officeworks.
JB Hi-Fi is also selling a suite of accessories to compliment the phones.
Cementing its position in the mid-range market, the Oppo R11s will retail for $659 and the larger R11s Plus for $779.
Oppo is clearly aiming to establish itself as fashionable and Gen-Y approved, as demonstrated at yesterday’s launch event which featured a runway parade from Aje, and musical set by Nicole Miller.
The Oppo R11s is the successor to the R11 smartphone.
The new 6-inch R11s has transitioned to an 18:9 screen aspect ratio, and upholds an overall sleek design.
The larger 6.4-inch R11s Plus boasts 6GB of RAM, compared to its smaller sister’s 4GB. Also on offer is also a special red edition with a “starry sky” screen treatment (i.e. a gradient screen overlay which offers a more luxe look).
Both the R11s & R11s Plus are powered by a Snapdragon 660 processor.
The phones highlight camera capabilities – a dual rear camera (16MP + 20MP with f/1.7 aperture) and 20MP front-facing camera with AI facial recognition.
The company states the device’s facial recognition has been tuned to register across 250 points, which also enhances the camera’s ‘beauty selfie mode’.
Oppo states the device’s facial recognition should register in under 1/10th of second.
