Samsung Galaxy S9 report again tips February reveal – with one new twist

Samsung will take the wraps off the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus at a dedicated event in February, with the units scheduled to hit the shelves sometime in March, according to information obtained by Bloomberg.

The March release date in particular flies in the face of other recent rumours, which have suggested that the Galaxy S9 and its big sibling might not be released until July or even August – though we were quick to question these based on Samsung’s previous launch patterns.

The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus are tipped to feature a near-identical design to the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, though there’s one major difference: Samsung has reportedly moved the fingerprint sensor to a more convenient location, nestling it below rather than next to the rear camera sensor.

Samsung is thought to have relocated the fingerprint sensor to below the camera module.

The Galaxy S9 Plus is also rumoured to ship with a vertically-mounted dual-camera setup à la Galaxy J series, which could bundle a souped-up sensor capable of shooting at an eye-watering 1,000 frames per second – but that’s far from confirmed.

Recent leaks suggest that both the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus will feature the same Infinity Displays as their predecessors – 5.8- and 6.2-inches, respectively – an Exynos 9810/Snapdragon 845 processor, and AKG-tuned stereo speakers.

Esteemed tipster Evan Blass, writing on behalf of VentureBeat, has reason to believe that all the information we’ve heard to date, including this latest tidbit, is accurate, adding some credibility to an otherwise untrustworthy pool of speculation.
