OPPO A83 Only Supports Face Unlock For Biometric Security

OPPO has announced the availability of the A83 in Taiwan. The real news about this particular phone is that it lacks a fingerprint scanner, and relies on facial recognition technology to unlock the phone.

The A83 looks similar to the OPPO F5 in design. It has a full-screen 5.7-inch HD+ display, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. The specifications did not specify which processor it is using but it is likely to be the Helio P23, which is the same as the F5.

At the rear, it comes with a 13-megapixel sensor that can stitch together several shots into a single 50-megapixel image. The front camera is an 8-megapixel unit, with beautification functions.

The facial recognition algorithm can scan up to 128 different facial features, and compare it with the stored image to unlock the phone in 0.18 seconds.

OPPO fitted the A83 with a 3180mAh battery, and it comes with a 3.5mm audio jack for those who wants to plug in their own headphones rather than using Bluetooth. The OPPPO A83 is priced at 1399 Yuan (RM 871) and is available in Champagne and Black. No news if OPPO Malaysia will be bringing this in locally.
