Oppo, Vivo say committed to Indian market

Oppo, Vivo say committed to Indian market NEW DELHI: Oppo and Vivo said that they’re committed to Indian market and will continue to invest here, downplaying a report about sending expats home on low sales and high hostility.

Reportedly, more than 400 Chinese expats working for Oppo and Vivo are headed back home after sharp falls in July and August smartphone sales, with anti-Beijing sentiment on the rise in some of India’s large consumer markets.

However, downplaying the report, Vivo said, “movement of the executives has been a routine, practice and has no relation to the overall brand performance.”

Similarly, Oppo in a separate statement said that the business operations are normal at present stage and are not affected by any of the issues. “To have better understanding of the market during Diwali festival, a few OPPO state agents are conducting training of Indian and Chinese employees at their capital cities for which officials – both Indian and Chinese are travelling and will resume work once the training is over,” the company clarified.

Further to validate Oppo’s commitment to India, the company said that its local unit in the Noida facility for local production is testimony to its commitment to Indian market.

Last week, the Chinese government issued a safety advisory for its citizens in India amid the Dokalam row and it is widely believed that the anti-Chinese sentiments have had the maximum impact on sales of Chinese handsets.
