Oppo: Bomber offered ban

Essendon midfielder Zach Merrett could miss Saturday night's clash with Adelaide after being offered a one-week suspension by the AFL Match Review Panel.

The reigning Bombers best and fairest was citing for striking Carlton's Lachie Plowman during the second term of the club's eight-point win over the Blues on Saturday at the MCG. The MRP deemed the incident as intentional and of medium impact to the body. 

The initial penalty attracted a two-match ban, but Merrett can accept a one-week suspension with an early guilty plea.

Teammate Joe Daniher was also charged by the MRP for a separate strike on Blaine Boekhorst. The incident, which occurred during the third term, was assessed as a careless conduct and of low impact to the head.

The goalkicker can accept a $1,500 fine.
