Samsung might be gearing up to launch another new phone called the Galaxy J7 Plus - or probably J7+ if we follow the S8 and S8+ naming convention. The phone will feature a reduced spec when compared to the S8 or Note 8, but it will cost a fraction of the price and offer a dual-camera setup.
I rather grumpily wrote in my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 hands-on that there was no point writing a hands-on anymore. Why? Because everything leaks before Samsung announces, or even pre-briefs about a device. And also because people prefer rumours over hard facts - it's about being in on a secret that only a few know.
And we've all seen leaks, but this takes it to a new level. The video, by Cambo Report comes via Slashleaks and Droidholic, seems to have a pretty comprehensive look around the new device, which will offer a lower-cost way to get a Samsung dual-camera system. Here's the video:
The specs for the Samsung Galaxy J7+ seem to be:
5.5-inch SAMOLED display with a full HD (1080p) resolution
An eight core processor, four cores at 2.39GHz and four at 1.69GHz
4GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage and potentially up to 128GB of microSD capacity
3000mAh battery
Dual rear cameras 13-megapixel f1.7 and 5mp f/1.9
Front-facing 16-megapixel camera
So the idea here is clearly that this is a reduced resolution screen without the "infinity display" of the Note 8 and S8. The rear cameras are a different setup too, this isn't a device with an optical 2x zoom like the Note, instead, it's got a much lower resolution second camera, presumably just to offer background defocus.
No matter what though, Samsung J series - and the excellent A series as well - offer truly great value. These are often phones that have much of the build quality of Samsung's high-end offerings, but for a fraction of the price. And while there are compromises made, it seems like for the most part, they're not in areas that would make the phone frustrating to use.
The inclusion of, say, 4GB of RAM means that the rumoured J7+ is hardly a slouch, and while some new Android devices have 6GB of RAM this is really something only very high-end use requires. So while the J7+ may not support the DeX Station or VR those are features many could live without anyway.
There's also another Samsung phone, the C10, which might be aimed at other regions. It too has a rumoured dual-camera setup, but the C series isn't widely-available in the US, and while some stores to have them they aren't usually sold by operators. The J Series, on the other hand, is also a GSM phone and is also sold alongside the S8 at AT&T and T-Mobile.
