Samsung's Surprising Competitor To Your New Galaxy Note 8
From everything we can tell about the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, it is shaping up to be one of the most powerful smartphones that will be released during 2017. For those who prize power and performance, the Note 8 is where the action is. Or is it?
There are indications that Samsung has decided to trump the Note 8 with a limited release edition of the phablet that tunes the Note 8’s specifications into the sky.

The Note 8 package already comes with an impressive features list. It is expected to include the dual camera on the rear (plus the unfortunately demoted fingerprint sensor), 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal storage, microSD expansion, the new curved screen that addresses the biggest complaints of the Galaxy S8, smaller bezels and support for Samsung’s S-Pen.
The latest indications suggest there will be a ‘Galaxy Note 8 Emperor Edition’ of the phablet, which will boost the internal storage from the expected 64 GB of the base models up to a massive genre-busting 256 GB of internal storage. There’s also the potential to lift the RAM to 6 GB, although with 6 GB appearing in handsets such as the OnePlus 5, that benefit may be handed out to the entire portfolio.

This would not be the first time that Samsung has released a ‘tuned’ model of a leading handset to a limited market - witness the Galaxy S8’s premium version in South Korea that was released a few weeks after the S8 and S8 Plus debuted. That model doubled the 64 GB of baseline storage to 128 GB, and bumped the RAM from 4 GB to 6 GB (arguably testing the 6 GB configuration for the Note 8’s wider use).
If the Galaxy Note 8 Emperor Edition appeals to you, then you’d better sit down for the last point. With the already high specifications of the Note 8 commanding a premium price, the 256 GB / 6 GB combination in the model royale could put the US price towards $1,200.
Now read why the fingerprint sensor on the Note 8 is the phablet’s achilles heel…
