Galaxy S8 price crash - Cheapest way to own Samsung's flagship may surprise you
Samsung's Galaxy S8 launched back in April and has quickly become the phone to own in 2017.
With a stunning curved Infinity display, upgraded camera and new processor the S8 has plenty going for it and should certainly be on your shopping list if you want the best Android experience going.
However, all of this latest technology doesn't come cheap with Samsung putting a starting price of £689 on its latest flagship.
So, if you fancy owning one of these state-of-the-art smartphones, what's currently the cheapest way of taking home a Galaxy S8?
Express.co.uk has been checking out the market and the lowest price may surprise you.
Most people assume that the cheapest option is to purchase the device without a contract and then buy a monthly SIM deal from an operator.
However, this doesn't always work out as cheap as you think.
We found the Galaxy S8 on Amazon for a bargain £578 - £110 off the usual asking price.
But if you then add on the average monthly consumption of 3GB/4GB data and unlimited calls/texts this price rises to around £818 over a two year period.
Here's how this price breaks down - Samsung Galaxy S8 £578 + Three Mobile SIM with 4GB of data at £10 per month (£240 for two years) = £818.
This prices rises to over £900 if you decide to buy the S8 from the offical Samsung store.
Meanwhile, with the S8 now six months old many retailers are beginning to roll-out deals which make it much cheaper then going SIM only.
Mobiles.co.uk currently have a deal which offers the S8 for £27.99 per month on a two year contract.
There's a £125 upfront fee to pay and the deal includes 3GB of data and unlimited calls/texts.
The total amount for this contract via EE is £796.76 over two years - that's more than £20 cheaper than going SIM only and buying the S8 with Amazon's deal (if you buy the S8 from Samsung, this difference rises to over £120) .
The only thing this doesn't offer is the ability to upgrade the device after 12 months as almost all smartphone contracts last for 24 months.
If you go SIM only you can sell your phone and upgrade at anytime as you're not tied into a long-term contract.
It's also worth noting that you can lower the price via SIM-only plans but this means you'll only get around 500MB of data and it's unlikely this will be enough for anyone wanting to own a flagship device such as the S8.
So, if you are thinking of buying the S8 it's worth shopping around to find the best deal and don't think going SIM-only will always offer the lowest price.
