Galaxy Note 8 Exclusive: Samsung's Smartphone Is Massive
Last week Samsung’s issued official invites which emphasised the Galaxy Note 8’s enlarged size. And now I have obtained new information which confirms this is indeed one massive new smartphone…
Stepping up to the mark is case maker Ghostek, which nailed every detail of the Galaxy S8 months prior to its release. Now Ghostek has exclusively supplied me with similar renders which show off the Galaxy Note 8 in detail on all sides:
Built from contacts within Samsung’s supply chain, Ghostek’s renders align with the biggest changes the Galaxy Note 8 is expected to make: the first premium dual rear camera on any Samsung smartphone, a move to USB Type-C charging, retention of the headphone jack, minimal bezels and an Infinity Display which Ghostek confirms is a massive 6.3-inches.
Unfortunately the renders confirm perhaps the most disappointing external aspect of the Galaxy Note 8 as well: the fingerprint sensor remains on the back in a ridiculous position - even if it is slightly less ridiculous than on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus.
How confident is Ghostek in its sources? Very, since what you’re looking at in its render is not some generic case but the company’s Cloak series retail case. This is being prepared for launch right now.
Interestingly Samsung itself also appears determined to keep leaking information about the Galaxy Note 8 prior to launch. This week a company executive used its earnings report to boast the “The Galaxy Note 8 will feature more advanced, richer multimedia functionalities” - this despite the fact that technically Samsung had yet to confirm the phone even exists.
This follows on from Samsung’s official Galaxy Note 8 launch invite (which did not name the phone) that urges users to “Do Bigger Things”. The invite featured a silhouette of the Galaxy Note 8 which my regular collaborator Benjamin Geskin was able to extrapolate into a comparison with the Galaxy S8 (left) and Galaxy S8 Plus (middle) which illustrates how massive it is:
And yes we know the upcoming iPhone 8 will be bigger and Google is enlarging the Pixel, but has Samsung gone too far? Personally I doubt it. Instead for me the real question is whether the Galaxy Note 8’s steep price increase proves to be the bigger breaking point.
